Meditation and Science of the Brain

Meditation, the art of relaxing your mind, body and soul. It is also an important component of many religions and is practiced since antiquity. It is a science which helps which alters the brainwaves emanating from your brain in such a way so that you can get ultimate relaxation and satisfaction. But very few people know the exact relation of the science of the brain with the meditation process. Very few people know how meditation actually works.

To know how meditation works, you have to know how our brain works. Our brain is an electrochemical organ using electromagnetic energy to function. Electrical activity emanating from the brain is in the form of brainwaves. There are four categories of these brainwaves. They range from the high amplitude, low frequency delta to the low amplitude, high frequency beta. Men, women and children of all ages experience the same characteristic brainwaves. They are consistent across cultures and country boundaries.

These waves are responsible for arising various behaviors in a human, as seen from the picture. During meditation, these brain waves alter. Simulating a specific kind of brain waves is the process of meditation.
